Lumberman Checking The Logs

Your harvest operations will be smooth and seamless when Long Forestry conducts regular harvest operation inspections. We check clear cutting or thinning and our understanding of market conditions and stumpage trends allows us to maximize the financial returns on your timber.

Some sites require specialized equipment to perform operations efficiently and within environmental regulations. To do a job right, you need the right tools, and we match the right logger to the needs of your tract.

Timber Marking

We are intimately familiar with the many forest harvest and management regulations administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corp of Engineers, as well as the numerous state, county, and local regulations and ordinances.

You'll also benefit from our timber marking. Recent studies suggest that forester-marked stands yield significantly higher volumes of saw-timber than operator select methods of thinning. We take the time to make better selections of residual stems, leaving the best to grow at optimum densities and spacing. We have a wide range of marking experience in natural pines, pine plantations, and hardwoods. Call us to see how we can assist you with your marking needs. Make the most out of your timber!

You may need controlled burning done on all or a portion of your property. Long Forestry is the professional, certified burner that you need. We have extensive experience with all types of prescribed burning. We do windrows, cutovers, understories, and fields.

Stands with greater than 75% pine timber should be burned on a regular basis to reduce fuel loads, control woody brush and understory vegetation, and stimulate the growth of forage plants valuable to wildlife.

Burning should be done in late fall or winter months to reduce the impact on ground nesting game and to minimize insect responses to timber. Ideally, burns should only be done as described in a written burning plan prepared by a qualified natural resource professional and performed only by a certified prescribed burner. Long Forestry is a Georgia certified burner.

Forest Inventories

Make Long Forestry your source for information to help you make sound decisions. Before a resource manager can make assessments and recommendations, your timber stand information must be known in regards to the following:

• Stocking Densities
• Diameter Distributions
• Heights
• Growth Rates
• Species
• Ages

Cruising

We collect this information by means of the timber cruise. This method of timber estimating is generally used for sales planning.

Trust Long Forestry to give you the most beneficial market analysis and selling information. Managing and selling timber without an inventory is like managing and selling stock without looking at the market or your portfolio. How do you know it's a good time and a good deal?

Our inventory cruises are designed to provide you with the information necessary to make informed decisions in the management and sale of your timber assets. Contact us to see how we can assist you.

Reforestation

Your site preparation, if needed, should be performed in late summer or early fall so planting may be done in late fall or winter. Cutover sites should be reforested as soon as possible after harvest and a species selection should be made based on your site location and the quality of site preparation as well as your desired product.

Let Long Forestry assist you with all of your reforestation needs. We have many years of experience with reforestation on all types of sites and with all major pine and hardwood species. Whether it's mechanical or chemical site preparation, or planting by hand or by machine, we'll get the job done for you.
